ADVANCE, Mo. -- Joseph R. Capps, 76, of Advance passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Dexter, Mo. He was born Aug. 25, 1935, in Bakersfield, Calif., son of James Robert and Zetta Long Capps. He and Kathryn C. O'Bryant were married Oct. 21, 1960, in Buchanan, Mich...

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Joseph R. Capps, 76, of Advance passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Dexter, Mo.

He was born Aug. 25, 1935, in Bakersfield, Calif., son of James Robert and Zetta Long Capps. He and Kathryn C. O'Bryant were married Oct. 21, 1960, in Buchanan, Mich.

Capps lived in Michigan before moving to Advance 42 years ago. He had worked at Arvin Automotive in Dexter, and was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn C. Capps of Advance; two sons, Joey and David Capps of Advance; three daughters, Linda Anderson of Cape Girardeau, Pat Thurman of Advance and Teresa Richardson of Summersville, Mo.; six grandchildren; three brothers, Bobby Glenn Capps of Jefferson City, Mo., Coleman Capps of Advance and Willie Capps of Monett, Mo.; seven sisters, Shirley Kidd of Advance, Mary Classcock of Colorado, Patricia Starkl of Dexter, Vicky Green and Phyllis VanGennip of Monett, Rosalie Capps of St. Louis and Janie Sandovol of Illinois; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Capps; and his stepmother, Josephine Capps.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to service time Saturday at Morgan Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Jesse Lacey of Dexter officiating.

Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
