Jon Mark Abernathy, 61, of Jackson died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 15, 1954, in Cape Girardeau to Leroy Linus and Patsy Jean Clingingsmith Abernathy.
Jon graduated from Jackson High School. He worked at Lenco Inc. in Jackson for over 41 years. He was a welder by trade. He also worked as a blacksmith and loved to do leather crafts.
He is survived by his mother, Patsy Jean Abernathy of Jackson; a son, Zachary Lee Abernathy, and Zachary's mother, Diana Abernathy, both of Fruitland; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy, and a brother, Donald Edward Abernathy.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson. A memorial service will be at noon Friday at the church, with the Revs. Joe Rowley and Sam Roethemeyer officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to Emanuel United Church of Christ or to the Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.
