Johnnie V. Haupt, 91, of Jackson passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at Rocky Mountain Veterans Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. Johnnie had been living with his daughter in Elizabeth, Colorado, the past few years. He was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Millersville to Robert F. and Maggie Mae Moore Haupt. He and Mary E. Brasher were married June 10, 1950, at the home of the Rev. A. J. Langston in Cape Girardeau. Three children were born to their union...

Johnnie V. Haupt, 91, of Jackson passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at Rocky Mountain Veterans Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. Johnnie had been living with his daughter in Elizabeth, Colorado, the past few years.

He was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Millersville to Robert F. and Maggie Mae Moore Haupt. He and Mary E. Brasher were married June 10, 1950, at the home of the Rev. A. J. Langston in Cape Girardeau. Three children were born to their union.

He attended high school in Oak Ridge and worked on the family farm.

Johnnie was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving honorably during World War II. He worked many years on the family farm and drove a truck 30 years for Central Packing Co., retiring in 1981. He was a steward for Teamsters Local 600 in Cape Girardeau. After retirement, he worked many years at the former Albert Sander Hardware Store in uptown Jackson.

Loving survivors include two children, Lana (the late Lewis "Butch") Pierce of Maryland Heights, Missouri, and Pam (Larry) Wendel of Elizabeth; a daughter-in-law, Kathie (the late Johnnie Steven "Steve") Haupt of Jackson; seven grandchildren, Johnnie D. (Jeanette) Haupt, Robert (Kim) Haupt, Thomas (Nikki) Haupt, Mindy Belue, Jeremy (Liz) Pierce, Christopher (Shellie) Wendel and Kelsey Wendel; 16 great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Devyn, Aidyn, Graisyn and Nolyn Haupt, Jordan, Joshua, Jonathan, Jacob and Julia Pierce, Tommy and Kensington Belue and Wyatt, Emma, Lonnie and Evelyn Wendel; a sister, Beulah Crites of Jackson; two brothers-in-law, Jerry (Madeline) Brasher of Maryland, Tennessee, and Grover (Nancy) Brasher of Alton, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Pat Engelhart of Hagerstown, Maryland, and Martha Bollig of St. Charles, Missouri; and a host of nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Haupt; his son, Steve Haupt; a son-in-law, Lewis "Butch" Pierce; his parents; and siblings, Frank and Roy Haupt, Elsie Seabaugh, Mary Crites, Linda Haupt, Mollie Wright and an infant brother.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating. Burial and military honors will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System, (Voluntary Service), 1700 N. Wheeling Drive, Aurora CO 80034. One hundred percent of all donations will go to help veterans in need.
