JACKSON -- Funeral service for John W. Tranter of Jackson will be held at 7 tonight at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. A VFW service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. today.
Tranter, 74 years old, died Monday, Dec. 17, 1990, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born March 17, 1916, at Pittsburg, Kan., son of Omar and Ethel Dorris Tranter. He married the former Marie Williams at Washburn.
Tranter was a pipefitter and of the Baptist faith. He was a member of VFW Post 3838 of Cape, Elks in Jackson, and Pipefitters Local 562. He moved to this area in 1968 from St. Louis. Tranter served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Wesley Tranter of Jackson; two sisters, Mary Main of Southwest City, Bertha Burton of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Kristin and Kent Tranter of Jackson.
