SIKESTON -- John W. Parsons, 73, of Sikeston, formerly of Matthews, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1993, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 26, 1920, at Delaware, Ark., son of Thomas Edward and Rosie Emma Pershall Parsons.

He married Edith E. Ewing, March 11, 1939, at Lamar, Ark.

Parsons was a retired farmer. From 1972 to 1990, he worked in the dietary transportation department for the Sikeston public school system.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blodgett, Mo.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Delbert Parsons of Bertrand, Mo.; three daughters, Velma Stewart of Sikeston, Doris Rushing and Jane Fewless, both of St. Charles, Mo.; two brothers, Everett Parsons and Edward Parson, both of Lamar, Ark.; five sisters, Maxine Nordin of London, Ark., Alma Galentine of Abilene, Texas, Lucinda Cowell of Ceres, Calif., Lucille Kloth of Lindsey, Calif., Lela Childers of Sikeston; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Sunday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, with the Rev. Lee Fansler officiating.

Burial will follow in the New Morley Cemetery at Morley, Mo.
