JACKSON -- John W. King Sr., 73, of Jackson, died at the Veterans Hospital in Poplar Bluff Saturday, July 31.
He was born Jan. 8, 1920, at Grand Tower, Ill., son of Charles Alfred King Sr. and Ira Bethany McCain King.
He married Dorothy Kinder Parsons April 20, 1946. She survives.
He worked at Ceramo in Jackson for 16 years and at the former Gold Line boat manufacturing plant in Cape Girardeau. He had been disabled since 1980.
King was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. He served in the Army in World War II, and was a member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, and the DAV chapter in Cape County.
Other survivors are a son, Bill King, Jackson; a stepdaughter, Betty Ann Fox, Jackson; brothers, Howard King, Jackson, and Charles King, Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Two brothers preceded him in death.
Service will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at McCombs Funeral Chapel in Jackson with the Rev. Lawrence Eatherton officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with a graveside service conducted by the VFW.
Friends may call between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
