JOHN W. HOLDER SR.

SIKESTON -- John W. Holder Sr., 84, of Sikeston, died Monday, July 11, 1994, at his home. He was formerly of Charleston.

He was born Feb. 2, 1910, in Bardwell, Ky., son of Gill and Kitty Grissom Holder. He and Edith Marie Kidd were married Dec. 21, 1932. She died March 23, 1981.

Holder farmed, and was a custodian at Mississippi County Courthouse, retiring in 1985. He attended First Baptist Church in Charleston, where he and his wife supervised the church nursery many years.

Survivors include five sons, John Jr. and Charles Holder of Sikeston, Herbert Holder of Cody, Wyo., Lewis Holder of Grantsburg, Ill., Bobby Holder of St. Peters; two daughters, Pauline Myatt of Del City, Okla., Carol Robertson of Wickliffe, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston after 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Frazier officiating. Burial will be in Dowdy Cemetery at Dexter.
