PUXICO -- John W. Colbert, 71, Puxico Route 1, died Monday, March 16, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Dec. 2, 1920, at Oran, son of Jake and Eunice Slater Colbert. He and Evelyn Watkins were married July 2, 1946, in Corning, Ark.

Colbert was a member of Kinder General Baptist Church, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Willie Colbert of Sylvia, Dave Colbert of Matthews, Charlie Colbert of Lowndes, Roy Colbert, Puxico Route 1; five daughters, Shirley Barker of Florissant, Carolyn Bonee of Enville, Tenn., Patricia and Sue Colbert, Puxico Route 1, Mary Leutert of Qulin; two brothers, Otho Colbert of Manchester, William Colbert of Granite City, Ill.; four sisters, Goldie Lanham and Joyce Payne of Springfield, Edna Evans of Benton, Ark., Joy McIntosh of St. Louis; 19 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son and two brothers.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. The Rev. Robert Lafferty will officiate, with burial in Brush Creek Cemetery at Arab.
