John S. Vance, 70, of Cape Girardeau and formerly of Marble Hill, Mo., died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 16, 1935, at Lincoln, Neb., son of Stanley and Lillian Tow Vance. He and Barbara Hagan were married Feb. 14, 1959, at Westmont, Ill.

Vance was the farm manager of Mid-America Teen Challenge in Glenallen, Mo., for 15 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God in Cape Girardeau and former member of the First Assembly of God in Marble Hill. He graduated from the Geneseo, Iowa, High School and attended the University of Nebraska.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steve Vance of Chanhassen, Minn., William S. Vance of Glenallen; two daughters, Mary Rodriguez of Payson, Utah, Laurie Vance of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Shirley Sears of Grinnell, Iowa, Ellen Brutsman of Plymouth, Minn.; and eight grandchildren.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Assembly of God. The Revs. Phillip Roop, Ellston Chapman and Jack Smart will officiate.
