John Wesley Smith, 66, of Millersville died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at his home.
He was born Oct. 28, 1938, in Bluford, Ill., son of Wesley and Minnie A. Sechrest Smith. He and Veleda F. Whitener were married Oct. 27, 1995.
He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church and VFW Post 3838. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Kathlyn Shetley of Cape Girardeau, Vicki Peistrup of the state of Maine, Evelyn Martin of Millersville, Amy Smith of St. Louis; a stepson, Dane Eiler of St. Louis; two stepdaughters, Daphne Edmonds of Cape Girardeau, Dawn Cororossi of Charleston, S.C.; two brothers, Richard Smith of Grassy, Mo., William Robert Smith of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Sovilla E. Holland of Wichita Falls, Texas, Dorothy M. Poole of Olathe, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, Mo.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Bill Ross and Gene Robbins officiating. Burial will be in McGee Chapel Cemetery.
