John E. Robinson, 85, of Cape Girardeau passed away peacefully Friday, April 7, 2023, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born July 18, 1937, in Perryville, Missouri, to Lawrence and Iona Robinson. He and Carolyn Meyer were married May 13, 1961, in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.

John proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958.

He worked as a plumber-pipe fitter for Local 562.

He spent many years as a member of the Promenaires Square Dance Club. He was also a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1111, American Legion and AARP 4041. In addition, he was a volunteer with the Red Cross and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

After retirement, he traveled as often as he could and had many adventures.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Robinson; son, Thomas E. (Teresa) Robinson; two daughters, Lori (Billy) Hughes and Cindy (Claude) Swain; grandchildren, Greg Gladish and fiancee Ashley Blessitt, Thomas C. Robinson and friend Kelly Henson, Tyne (Lee) Strickert, Corey (Hannah) Robinson, Maura (Keith) Wiethaupt, Jacob (Natalie) Gladish and Gabriel Hughes; and great-grandchildren, Claire and Reid Strickert, Alice Gladish, Alyssa, Lucy and Etta Wiethaupt and Charlotte Robinson. Also surviving are one sister, Virginia Werle, and one brother, Marvin Robinson.

John was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Thomas V. Robinson; and one sister, Elizabeth Burleson.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at the church, with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau. Military rites will be provided by the Missouri Honors Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church or a charity of choice.

Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
