CHARLESTON -- Funeral service for John R. Reed of Union City, Tenn., will be held at 11 a.m. today at Dunlap Funeral Home in Union City. The Revs. John Archer and James McClure will officiate. Burial will be in East View Cemetery.
Reed, 81, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City.
He was born March 23, 1916, in Goreville, Ill., son of John I. and Laura Ragsdale Reed. He and Dorothy Dudley were married in 1935 in Chicago.
Reed was a salesman and later general manager with McKnight-Keaton Wholesale Grocery Co., and later was general manager of Woodward Hardware Co. He joined the firm of Edward D. Jones and Co., moved the office to Union City in 1967, and managed the firm until retiring in 1988.
He was a member and elder of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Paris, Tenn. He attended First United Methodist Church in Union City.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marilyn Brown of Charleston and Lake Mary, Fla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters.
