John Henry Ramey, 62, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Sept. 18, 1945, in Cape Gir-ardeau, the son of John Knott Ramey Jr. and Evelyn C. Borgfield Ramey. He and Margaret Janice Gilbert Ramey were married Oct. 14, 1965, in Cape Girardeau.
Ramey served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1968. He worked for the Southeast Missourian as a reporter and editor for more than 30 years.
He won numerous awards in Missouri Press Association and Suburban Newspaper of America contests for in-depth and investigative reporting.
His hobbies included bass fishing, golfing and most of all spending time with his family. He was a member of Bass Busters of SEMO.
Survivors include his wife of Cape Girardeau; a son, John K. Ramey and wife Mischon of Fairview, Tenn.; two daughters, Tonya E. Darrow and husband Heath of Jackson, Lori A. Vines and husband Marty of Cape Gir-ardeau; his mother, Evelyn C. Ramey of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Steve Ramey of Cape Girardeau, Richard Ramey of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Beth Glaus of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren, Hannah Ramey, Jack Ramey, Jessy Darrow, Kylie Darrow, Truman Vines and Atticus Vines.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with Heath Darrow and Marty Vines officiating.
Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.
