CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- John W. Pylate Jr., 78, of Caruthersville died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at his home.
He was born Nov. 30, 1921, in Kosciusko, Miss., son of John W. and Ada Bell Stokes Pylate Sr. He and Madge Eris Parker were married Aug. 18, 1940, in Kosciusko.
Pylate attended schools in McAdams, Miss. He was owner of Pylate's Machine and Welding Works. He was a 32nd Degree Mason.
He was inducted in the U.S. Navy Oct. 6, 1944, in Jackson, Miss., and received his honorable discharge April 6, 1946, in Memphis, Tenn. He received two Bronze Stars while serving his country.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Lynn Stewart of Meridian, Miss., Madge Winstead of Powder Springs, Ga., Gayle Gorham of Jackson, Mo.; two sons, John W. "Buster" Pylate III and Jerry Pylate of Caruthersville; two brothers, C. Irving "Red" Pylate of Kosciusko, William D. Pylate of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 13 nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Stacy Preston Sims; two brothers, E. Earl Pylate and James Earnest "Jack" Pylate; and two sisters, Lois Louise Pylate and Alece Pylate.
Funeral was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel in Kosciusko, with the Rev. David Cox officiating. Burial was in Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko.
Pallbearers were Steve Stewart, Scott Stewart, Lloyd Winstead, Brandon Pylate, Peyton Sims and Wes Pylate.
H.S. Smith Funeral Home in Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.
