MOUNDS, Ill. -- Funeral for John J. Powers of West Palm Beach, Fla., will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Barkett Funeral Home in Mounds. Larry Powers and Jim Pierceall will officiate, with burial in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time.

Powers, 73, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

He was born April 14, 1925, in Gove, Kan., son of Miles and Rosa Ghem Powers.

Powers had been self-employed in an irrigation equipment business. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; three daughters, Leslie Moss of West Palm Beach, Karen Rogers of Centralia, Myrtle VonWedell of Columbus, Kan.; two sons, Larry Powers of Havana, Ill., Jim Pierceall of Wickliffe, Ky.; a sister, Ruth Romesberg of Garden City, Kan.; three brothers, Ed Powers of Rogers, Ark., Sanford and Frank Powers of Gove; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, a brother, and two sisters.
