CAIRO, Ill. -- John Paul Peterson, 83, of Cairo died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Charleston Manor Nursing Home in Charleston, Mo.
He was born July 25, 1917, in Cairo, son of John Will and Goldie Davis Peterson. He married Mary Boswell, who died in 1999.
Peterson was a member of First United Methodist Church, Cairo Elks Lodge 651, Cairo Historical Association, served on Cairo Airport Commission many years, and was involved with Magnolia Manor and Cairo Public Library.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, John Chad Peterson of Seattle, Wash., John Davis Peterson of Orange, Calif.; a brother, Will Peterson of Irving, Texas; a sister, Phyllis Walder of Wickliffe, Ky.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and a sister.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. The Rev. Kelly Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Cairo City Cemetery at Villa Ridge, Ill.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 11 a.m. until time of service.
