MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- John Henry Peters, 72, of Marble Hill died unexpectedly at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017.

Born on Jan. 23, 1945, in Bessville, Missouri, he was the son of John and Lorene King Peters. He married Charlotte L. Farrow on Dec. 10, 1966. She survives.

John worked as a sewing-machine mechanic for many years. He worked for Paramount Hat Co. for over 20 years before joining Henschel Manufacturing, from which he retired.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold, Missouri, and the Knights of Columbus Council 5898.

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 5900 in Marble Hill.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lisa Statler of Marble Hill, Lora Liebich of Foley, Missouri, and Jonna Halavats of Troy, Missouri; a son, Johnny L. Peters of Marble Hill; six sisters, Mary Schaefer, Ruth Britton, Irene Peters, Bernedette Seabaugh, Rose Ann Beel and Esther Welker; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Peters; five grandchildren, Kristin and Katlyn Statler, Billy Liebich, Amber Raasch and Amanda McMillan; and three great-grandchildren, Sebastian Raasch and Issac and Alexandria Cundiff.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Virgil; and a grandchild.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. A Knights of Columbus rosary and parish prayers will begin at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold. The Rev. David Coon will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
