CHARLESTON, Mo. -- John Norman, 63, of Charleston, formerly of East Prairie, Mo., died on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born Jan. 5, 1939, in the Dogwood community near East Prairie, son of James Edward and Elsie Marie Burns Norman.

He lived in Mississippi County all of his life. He was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Charleston and a retired farmer.

He and Mary Rose Howton Norman were married Dec. 10, 1960. She died April 16, 1989. On Aug. 3, 1990, he married Barbara Kaye Brown.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jo Ann Kassabaum of Jefferson City, Mo.; two stepsons, Jerry Hailey Jr. of Sikeston, Mo., and Jeffery Hailey of Charleston; four brothers, George Alfred Norman of Sikeston, James Monroe Norman of Murray, Ky., Woodrow Wilson Norman of East Prairie and Mike DeWayne Norman of East Prairie; four sisters, Clara Mae Humphreys of East Prairie, Ruth Ellen Miller of LaCenter, Ky., Margie Marie Suggs of Bertrand, Mo., and Sandra Kaye Henderson of Sikeston; and four stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Monday at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.

Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Ed Carter and Pete Morton officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery.
