John Delano Moneyhun, 88, of Whitewater passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023, at Monticello House in Jackson.
John was born Feb. 9, 1934, in Hilderbrand, Missouri, to Larkin Lee and Bernice Cadle Moneyhun.
John was baptized at Sargent's Chapel near Daisy. He was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School.
John married Marie R. "Rose" Maintz, the love of his life, on May 15, 1954, just before his Korean War military service. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from July 15, 1954, to June 1, 1956.
After his marriage to Rose, they attended Old Salem United Methodist Church near Millersville. After moving to Whitewater, they were active members of United Methodist Church in Whitewater.
John operated heavy equipment with Missouri Department of Transportation, District 10, from July 1, 1980, to Jan. 31, 1995, retiring as a senior crew worker.
From an early age, John loved music, often playing the violin, guitar and banjo with his siblings. John also enjoyed playing music with friends, even recording a CD with the Whitewater Jammers in 2006. In later years, John combined music with his woodworking skills and made a violin for each of his beloved grandchildren, with whom he loved spending time. His other pastimes included playing cards with friends, hunting, fishing, taxidermy work and meeting with the Bootheel Bow Hunters Club.
John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rose Moneyhun; their daughter, Connie (Bruce) Froemsdorf of Nanakuli, Oahu, Hawaii, formerly of Waialua; a granddaughter, Amy Froemsdorf, and fiance, Kevin Flesher of Nanakuli; sister-in-law, Dorothy Horn of Jackson; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Garret Froemsdorf; three siblings, James and Donald Moneyhun and Marjorie Eaker; and his parents.
