CAIRO, Ill. -- John M. Maddox, 77, of Cairo, died Monday, June 24, 1991, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He retired as superintendent of mail at Cairo post office. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Cairo Elks 651 and Cairo VFW Post 6249. He was a veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; two sisters-in-law, Mary Maddox and Frances Elias of Cairo; a brother-in-law, Phillip Barkett of Sikeston, Mo.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Barkett Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Kenneth Provines will officiate, with burial in Beechwood Cemetery at Mounds.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today. An Elks service will be held at 7:30.
