PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- John W. "Jay" Lottes Sr., 78, of Perryville died Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville. He was born March 13, 1938, in Cape Girardeau, son of Edward F. and Bernice Schlattman Lottes. He and Margaret Mary "Peg" Byron were married Sept. 5, 1964. She preceded him in death May 6, 2015...

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- John W. "Jay" Lottes Sr., 78, of Perryville died Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville.

He was born March 13, 1938, in Cape Girardeau, son of Edward F. and Bernice Schlattman Lottes. He and Margaret Mary "Peg" Byron were married Sept. 5, 1964. She preceded him in death May 6, 2015.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville. He was past president of Rozier Mercantile and its current secretary and treasurer.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1263 -- Fourth Degree Knight, past grand knight, faithful navigator and district deputy; Perryville Rotary Club; French Colonial Studies; DePaul University Graduate of History; and past US Bank Board of Directors. His favorite pastimes were studying history and spending time with his family.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters, John W. (Paula) Lottes Jr., Margaret (Michael) Hotop and Mary Beth Lottes, all of Perryville, Edward Lottes of St. Louis and Daniel Lottes of Pasadena, California; three sisters, Mary (Ray) Worsek of St. Louis, Patricia "Pat" Ball of Bloomsdale, Missouri, and Nancy (Charles) Anderson of Perryville; and five grandchildren, Brett and Brooke Lottes, and Casey, Chelsey and Austin Hotop.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a brother, Frederick Lottes.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Catholic and Knights of Columbus wake at 6 p.m., and from 6:30 to 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Officiating will be the Rev. Tom Croak, C.M. Entombment will be in the Mary Queen of Heaven Mausoleum at Mount Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Vincent School or the Centennial Endowment Fund, Perry County Historical Society or the Vincentian Seminary in Kenya.
