MORLEY, Mo. -- John Robert "J.R." Lee Jr., 93, of Morley died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo.
He was born Feb. 3, 1912, at Morley, son of John Robert and Tillie Deiters Lee Sr. He and Olivia Gennell Huffstutter were married Nov. 28, 1943, in Cape Girardeau.
Lee had farmed, worked at Vanduser Cotton Gin in Vanduser, Mo., Baseline Cotton Gin in Morley, J.R.'s Salad Bowl Restaurant in Walnut Ridge, Ark., and the grain elevator in Cape Girardeau.
He was mayor of Morley several years, served on the school board of Scott County Central School District, and was a board member of the Baptist Home in Ironton, Mo. He was a member and deacon of Morley Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Lee III of Edmond, Okla., Terry Lee of Barnes Ridge, Mo.; a daughter, Susan Godwin of Morley; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston from 5 to 8 p.m. today, and at First Baptist Church in Morley from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Rodney Davis officiating. Burial will be in Old Morley Cemetery at Morley.
