Bob Kibler Jr., 85, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 7, 1921, in Jackson, son of John Robert and Ethel Louise Watkins Kibler Sr. He and Betty Harney were married Oct. 21, 1945, in Pottsville, Pa. She survives.

Bob was a 1939 graduate of Jackson High School. He was in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, serving in the 95th Infantry Division in the European Theater. He earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star Medal.

After service, Bob worked at the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson. In the late 1940s he became a postal carrier with the Jackson Post Office, being the carrier for Route 1, and retiring in 1978 as assistant post master.

He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post in Jackson, National Rural Carriers Association and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

Loving survivors include his wife of 60 years; a son, Robert L. Kibler of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara Proctor and husband Glenn of Jackson; a grandson, Chris Mouser and wife Jamie of Jackson; and three great-grandchildren, Annie, Lauren, and C.J. Mouser, all of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William H. "Bill" Kibler, and a sister, Louise Godwin.

Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, with an American Legion service at 7.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with graveside military honors to be conducted.
