Johnson N. "John" Kenner, 82, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center. He had been a resident of the Missouri Veterans Home the past 18 months.

He was born May 22, 1931, in McBride, Mo., to Claude and Dorothy Preston Kenner. He and Jane Smith were married in 1953. They remarried in 2005.

John attended Perryville public schools and was a 1949 graduate of Perryville High School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1950. He was a master sergeant working with supplies. His foreign duty stations included Korea, Germany and Turkey. He was honorably discharged in 1970.

Upon returning to the Cape Girardeau area, he worked 15 years in the supply department at Procter & Gamble. John was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau and Jackson Evening Optimist Club. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed fishing.

Loving survivors include his wife, Jane of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Nancy (Steve) Webb of Cape Girardeau; a son, Andrew (Lorean) Kenner of Jackson; five grandchildren, Angela, Kelly, John Paul, April and Lindsey; and four great-grandchildren, Cole, Olivia, Dylan and Carter.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Kenner.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Full military honors will be conducted at a committal service at noon Friday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church or Missouri Veterans Home Foundation.
