KARNAK, Ill. -- Funeral for John E. Kean of Karnak will be held at 11 a.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. The Rev. Ken Sharp will officiate. Burial will be in Belknap Masonic Cemetery, with military rites by Vienna VFW Post 5222.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until service time.
Kean, 86, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at the home of a daughter in DeLand.
He was born Oct. 6, 1913, in Belknap, son of Charles and Hattie Lowe Kean. He married Margaret Rankin, who preceded him in death.
Kean was a retired officer of the U.S. Navy, serving 20 years. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and received 22 stars while on the battleship USS Washington.
He was later an agent and adjuster with Country Companies Insurance 15 years.
Kean was a member of Retired Officers Association in Washington, D.C.; American Legion Post 178 of Villa Ridge; VFW Post 3847 of Metropolis; Belknap Masonic Lodge 1028; and Pulaski County Farm Bureau. He attended First Baptist Church of Karnak.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Dixon of DeLand; three sisters, Alice Summers, Louise Eastwood and Kakky Eastwood of Karnak; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, three brothers and a granddaughter.
