John Lawrence "Jack" Baugher, 54, of Jackson, formerly of Tamms, Illinois, passed away suddenly at 6:46 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at his home.

Jack was born Oct. 18, 1962, in Cape Girardeau, son of Kerry L. Baugher Sr. and the late Marjorie J. Miller Baugher.

Jack was a graduate of Egyptian High School in Tamms; was an avid baseball player, where he played for the Capaha baseball team and later was named in the SIU Baseball Hall of Fame; and he was a retired prison guard from the Vienna Correctional Center in Vienna, Illinois.

He attended the Tamms United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie J. Baugher, on March 29, 2002.

Survivors include his daughter, Brooke Baugher; a son, Brock Baugher; his father and stepmother, Kerry L. Baugher Sr. and Diane Baugher, all of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Tim Pappas of Jackson and Kerry L. (Jenny) Baugher Jr. of Edwardsville, Illinois; two sisters, Toni (Russ) Lipe of St. Louis and Kathy (Doug) Krieger of Boston, New York; nephews, Ty (Dana) Lipe, Jacob Lipe and Trey and Carson Baugher; niece, Blair Baugher; and a host of other friends and relatives.

Friends may call between 4 and 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home Tamms.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Brent Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens, Villa Ridge, Illinois.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to the Brooke and Brock Baugher Education Fund that will be set up at Southern Bank (former Capaha Bank) in Cape Girardeau, in memory of Jack Baugher.
