SIKESTON -- John Howard "Jack" Sides, 62, of Austin, Texas, and formerly of Sikeston, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 1995, at Seton Medical Center in Austin.
He was born July 2, 1933, at Fredricktown, son of Howard Hopkins and LoLeta Matkin Sides. He and Judy Smith were married June 6, 1959, at Columbia. They later divorced.
Sides was a former Scott County Probate Judge, appointed in 1965, by then-Gov. John Dalton. He was also president of the Sikeston Jaycees and Rodeo Chairman. Before retiring, he practiced law.
In 1959, he earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri. In 1960, he also earned a law degree from the university.
He was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church and served in the U.S Air Force during the Korean War.
Survivors include his mother of Sikeston; a son, John H. Sides Jr. of Denton, Texas; two daughters, Julie Morrison of Sikeston and Jennifer Sides of Houston; and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston, with the Rev. William Stanton officiating. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Park Hills.
