John Edward Holland, 64, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at his home.
He was born Feb. 10, 1938, in St. Louis, son of Robert Edward and Henrietta Pauline Arens Holland. He and Dorothy C. Schott were married June 11, 1960, in Cape Girardeau.
Holland was a 1961 graduate of St. Louis University. He was part owner of Schott Electrical Distributing from 1964 to 1982. He was actively involved with Notre Dame High School from 1965 to 1990, and was development director five of those years. He also served on the school board.
He was a member of Conception Seminary College Board of Directors in 1982 and 1983. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, St. Francis Medical Center Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus Council 1111, and was active in Cape Pilots Club many years.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Brian Holland of Gilbertsville, Ky.; three daughters, Cynthia Niswonger and Victoria Shull of Corpus Christi, Texas, Valerie Schaefer of Carbondale, Ill.; a brother, Timothy Holland of Arnold, Mo.; a sister, Suzanne Dirnberger of Baltimore, Md.; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and two grandsons.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Parish prayers will be at 7, followed by Knights of Columbus rosary.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with Msgr. Ed Eftink officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
