CHAFFEE, Mo. -- John V. Halter, 85, of Chaffee died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 6, 1925, in Oran, Mo., to John A. and Bertha Lauck Halter. He married Audrey McCreery on Feb. 14, 1947. She preceded him in death Sept. 22, 1986.
Halter served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific on U.S. RO I CVE-103 Aircraft Carrier during World War II.
He was a retired owner/publisher in Lewistown, Ill., 40 years. After moving to Chaffee he was appointed Emergency Management Agency coordinator for the city of Chaffee. He was a member of Elks Lodge 1810, American Legion Post 389 in Chaffee, VFW Post 3127 and Country C.B. Bingo Club.
He is survived by five sisters, Cecilia Walton of Fairview Heights, Ill., Dorothy Dees and Lorena Halter of Scott City, Elizabeth Stubbs of Chaffee, and Anna Mae Smith of Ringgold, Ga.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin as celebrant. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery.
