John W. "Jack" Fuerth passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Jack was born in Cape Girardeau July 3, 1923, the son of Ralph Thomas Fuerth and Fay Adell Ringer.

He attended St. Mary's Grade School and High School. He also attended Southeast Missouri State University.

Jack was a three-year veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He served in the South Pacific Theater.

After returning from military service he joined his father in the operation of Jones Printing Company. And following his father's death, Jack operated the printing business on Broadway until ill health forced him into retirement in 2001. His printing office at 111 Broadway became a gathering place for friends and downtown merchants.

For many years he was active in the Community Theater and served on the board of directors. In retirement he volunteered hundreds of hours at Saint Francis Medical Center, and was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 1999.

He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered for years at Bingo. He was a frequent visitor of the Cape Girardeau Senior Center and served on its board of directors. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Cathedral and member of its Ushers Club.

Mr. Fuerth is survived by his beloved niece, Lynne Watrous and husband Tom of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; great-nieces, Cheryl Ann (Brian) Moore of Waterford, Mich., Tracy (Sumner) Camisa of Bingham Farms, Mich.; and great-great-nephews and niece, Edward Buford, Sarah Camisa and Jackson Camisa. Relatives in Cape Girardeau include Loretta Fuerth Schneider, Mickey (Jim) Foster and Lilian Jones.

He is also survived by his extended family, Carol (Pee Wee) Rhodes, Mark (Pam) Rhodes and Scott Rhodes, all of Cape Girardeau, Kelly (Kerry) Holloway of Fayetteville, Ark., and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Aldana (Ed) Renkel.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel, with parish prayers at 7 and Knights of Columbus Rosary following.

Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. James Seyer officiating and the Rev. Thomas Kiefer concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers are Vernon "Pee Wee" Rhodes, Scott Rhodes, Mark Rhodes, Eric Marquart, Ryun Holloway, Sumner Camisa, Brian Moore and Eddie Buford.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Cathedral or St. Mary's School Fund.
