MARBLE HILL -- John E. Davis, 85, of Marble Hill, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1993, at his home.
He was born Sept. 19, 1908, at Alton, son of Henry and Nancy Powell Davis. He and Alma Gosnell were married March 3, 1928.
Davis was a retired mechanic with Swift and Co. in East St. Louis, Ill. He moved to this area in 1972 from Madison, Ill. He was a member of Point Pleasant General Baptist Church near Marble Hill, and Madison IOOF Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Darrell Davis of Granite City, Ill., Ronald Davis of West Frankfort, Ill.; four daughters, Louise Hughes of Marble Hill, Thelma Pryor of Granite City, June Legate of Edwardsville, Ill., Jolene Hessling of Collinsville, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, five brothers, five sisters, a grandchild and great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Liley Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. The Revs. Randy Masters and Bobby Robbins will officiate, with burial in McGee Chapel Cemetery near Glen Allen.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
