John Anderson Dodd, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at his home.
He was born June 17, 1932, in Cairo, Illinois, to John and Clara Jane (Tudor) Dodd. He married Mary Charlene Ollis on Dec. 24, 1951, in Cairo. They later were sealed together for eternity in the Washington, D.C., Latter-day Saints temple. They are parents of five children.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spent many years as director of the Family History Center and helped many with their genealogy research.
John was a millwright by trade.
He and Charlene always worked hard together as they built their life and on their many projects throughout the years.
He used his many skills in their various businesses. No problem was too hard for him to solve.
He was always willing to help others.
He served in the Air Force for six years during the Korean conflict.
John was preceded in death by a son, Paul Dodd; his parents; brother, Bob Dodd; and sister, Pat Williams.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Dodd; sister, Helen Kaye Palmer; brother, Phil Dodd; daughter, Donna (Robert) Vincent of Sikeston, Missouri; son, John (Nanette) Dodd of Joliet, Illinois; daughter, Pam Dodd of Cape Girardeau, and son Gary Dodd of Cape Girardeau; also sons Aaron Wolfe of Cape Girardeau and Jason Wolfe of Wichita, Kansas; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Bishop James Chesnick officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Missouri Honors Team at the church.
Interment will be at a later date in the Plainfield Cemetery at Plainfield, Illinois.
