ANNA, Ill. -- John H. Dirden, 75, of Carbondale, Ill., formerly of Union County, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at The Abbey of Carbondale.

He was born April 19, 1925, in Paragould, Ark., son of Ervin and Mildred Wineham Dirden. He married Myrtle Taylor.

Dirden was a member of Faith Assembly of God Church in Wolf Lake, Ill., and American Legion Post 259 in Cobden, Ill.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Irvin and Charles Dirden of Carbondale, John Dirden of Anna; a daughter, Glendola Dirden of Anna; a stepson, Harry Dunn Jr. of Goreville, Ill.; two sisters, Ella Duschl of Anna, Naomi Wickliffe of Odessa, Texas; numerous grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Anna from 5-7 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Stamp officiating. Burial will be in McGinnis Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 259.
