John Cotner

John Thomas "T.C." Cotner, 44, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at his home in Scott City, where he lived the past eight years.

He was born Feb. 2, 1959, in Cape Girardeau, son of Chester and Hannah Rumfelt Cotner. He married Tammy S. Burger April 21, 1990, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, Mo.

John was an employee of Manpower and had worked at the P&G facility almost four years. During those years he came into contact with many people and all became very important to him.

He was a member of St. Augustine Church, 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 6420, and 4th Degree member of Assembly 2283 in Scott City.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1976 to 1979.

John enjoyed doing so many things in life, from being with family and friends, camping and floating, coaching his daughter's softball team, to operating River City Karaoke the past six years. He loved to sing and listen to music.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Caitlyn; a son, Zachary; his mother of Cape Girardeau; his father of Troy, Mo.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ron and Karen Burger of Scott City.

Also surviving are five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Vicki and Kent Zickfield, Deborah Cotner and Virginia Cotner, all of Cape Girardeau, Charlotte and H.R. Crouch and Judy and George Welsh, all of Texas; two brothers, David Cotner of Cape Girardeau, Stephen Cotner of St. Louis; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Scott and April Burger of Scott City, Adam and Nicki Burger of Bloomfield, Mo.; six nephews and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Rumfelt, and a brother, Anthony Cotner.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 6:30, followed by Knights of Columbus service at 6:45.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Oliver Clavin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with full military rites by Missouri Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be nephews Brian Jones, Tracey Welsh, David Likens and Cody Cotner, and two good friends, Tom McDowell and Allen Null.
