PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- John H. Brune, 87, of Perryville died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 9, 1919, at Friedheim, son of Oscar Henry and Mellie Crites Brune. He and Lillian Dambach were married Sept. 6, 1942.
Brune was a farmer. He was Perry County assessor 36 years, past president of Missouri Assessors Association and other offices at the state level. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, VFW Post 4282 and co-founder of DAV.
He served with the Ninth Army Division during World War II. He received the Purple Heart, Sharpshooter Medal, Good Conduct Medal, ETO Ribbon and three Battle Stars.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Joan Layton of Perryville, Shirley Moore of Glasgow, Ky., Jannette Barks of Hopkinsville, Ky.; a son, Charles Brune of Perryville; two brothers, Clyde "Bill" Brune of Sedgewickville, Mo., Kelly Brune of Friedheim; six sisters, Mary Brune and Loral Brune of Perryville, Verna Hobeck of Daisy, Jean Sims of Sun City, Ariz., Ruth Kutscher of St. Louis, Dorothy Buck of Parma, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at Young and Sons Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Thomas Handrick officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by Delta Team.
