John W. Braswell, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Southeast Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 9, 1916, in Desloge, Mo., son of John Walter and Nola Belle Wheeler Braswell.
He and Nelda Ruth Taylor were married June 24, 1939, in St. Louis.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and was a member and past president of the Methodist Men's Club, Cape Shrine Club; member of Scottish Rite, Down Town Rotary; past president and life member of Missouri Water Conditioning Association.
He played for 32 years with the Cape Girardeau Municipal Band.
He was a licensed stationary engineer and owned and operated Sani-Soft Water Service and held several patents in the water conditioning business.
Braswell was a lieutenant commander with the Merchant Marine during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David Braswell of Farmington, N.M., Dan Braswell of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Becki Miller of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Earl Braswell of Sikeston; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and two brothers.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Clayton Smith and Karen Mustoe officiating.
