John Lloyd Blue, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born March 3, 1915, at Flat River, Mo., son of Ernest K. and Mabel Nicewarner Blue. He and Mary Lucille Boyd were married Sept. 27, 1940, in Cape Girar-deau.
Blue graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1938, and attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
He was on staff at the Southeast Missourian Newspaper from 1940 to 1980. He started as a reporter and then served as editor from 1961-80.
Blue was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Cape Girardeau Rotary Club, St. Mark Lodge 93 AF&AM, 32nd Degree member of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Capaha Scottish Rite Club and American Legion Post 63.
He was president of Cape Girardeau Rotary Club from 1959-60; governor of District 609 Rotary International from 1963-64; president of Southeast Missouri Hospital Association from 1975-77; president of Southeast University Alumni Association from 1965-67; member of Diamond Anniversary and 125th Anniversary Committees and co-chairman of the Centennial Committee at Southeast University.
Blue served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 28, 1942, to Oct. 1, 1943.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Anne Elizabeth Waddell of Marietta, Ga.; a brother, William Blue of Rolla, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
There is no visitation.
A private committal service will be held today at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Paul Kabo Jr. will officiate.
