DeSOTO, Ill. -- John L. Barnes, 62, of DeSoto passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at his home.
He was born July 26, 1951, in Urbana, Ill., to John and Louise Klien Barnes. John married Phyllis Reeves Neighbors on April 26, 1985, in Jackson.
John retired from Vogler Ford in Carbondale, Ill., as a sales associate in November. He began working there in June 1983, with more than 30 years' service. He served on the Blairsville Water Department Board and was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife; two children, Travis Neighbors and Candi DeBruin and husband Nic, all of Tulsa, Okla.; a grandson, Cameron Neighbors of Tulsa; three sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law, Valerie (Jim) Herring of Murphysboro, Ill., Norma (Claude) Neace of Jackson, David (Faye) Reeves of Murphysboro, Bob Church of Carterville, Ill., Norman Reeves of Springfield, Ill., and Joe Reeves of Santa Barbara, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Sherry Church.
His body will be cremated.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Easton officiating.
