BERTRAND, Mo. -- Joe Rufus Stone, 63, of Paducah, Ky., died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah. He was born May 22, 1938, at Morley, Mo., son of Arthur Ervin and Jesse Lee Houston Stone. He and Violet Shands were married April 18, 1960...

BERTRAND, Mo. -- Joe Rufus Stone, 63, of Paducah, Ky., died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.

He was born May 22, 1938, at Morley, Mo., son of Arthur Ervin and Jesse Lee Houston Stone. He and Violet Shands were married April 18, 1960.

Stone was a retired riverboat pilot. He was a member of International Order of Odd Fellows, member of and deacon at House of Prayer General Baptist Church in Paducah. He moved to Paducah five years ago from Bertrand.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Charles Marshall of Phoenix, Ariz., Bobby Marshall of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Donald Marshall of Cape Girardeau, Glen Marshall of Jackson, Mo.; a daughter, Mary Boyer of Paducah; a brother, Donnie Stone of Piedmont, Mo.; two sisters, Francis Emerson of Benton, Mo., Betty Seiler of Modesto, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Friends may call at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie after 6 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Bill Meeks and Robert Feezor officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery near Charleston, Mo.
