Joe Wayne Smith, 66, of Scott City died suddenly Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 2, 1944, in Cape Girardeau, to Fred Ivan and Vera Held Smith. He married Joyce Marie Wylder on July 28, 1965, in Scott City.
Joe was a foreman 33 years with the Laborers' International Union of North America Local 1104. He was also owner of Joe's Place (Boars Nest) in Scott City.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Sheryl (Ray) Simpkins and Tammy Mouser of Scott City; a brother, Roger (Glenda) Smith of Scott City; five grandchildren, J.W. and Dalton Simpkins, Drake, Kaden and Allyson Mouser; and a great-grandson, Colton Simpkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepdad, Elmer Lohmann; and a great-grandson, Dakota Simpkins.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Randy Morse officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Memorial Cemetery.
