CHARLESTON -- Joe S. "Pete" Quertermous, 64, of Charleston, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1992, at his home. He was born March 21, 1928, in Mississippi County, son of Clarence and Thelma Smith Quertermous. He and Joyce Anderson were married Jan. 14, 1951. Quertermous worked a number of years at Brown Shoe Co. here, and then was a brick mason until ill health caused his retirement in 1984. He was a member of VFW Post 4294. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II...

CHARLESTON -- Joe S. "Pete" Quertermous, 64, of Charleston, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1992, at his home.

He was born March 21, 1928, in Mississippi County, son of Clarence and Thelma Smith Quertermous. He and Joyce Anderson were married Jan. 14, 1951.

Quertermous worked a number of years at Brown Shoe Co. here, and then was a brick mason until ill health caused his retirement in 1984. He was a member of VFW Post 4294. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Edmundson of Cape Girardeau, Shirley "Joey" Davis of East Prairie; five brothers, Auburn "Q.T." Quertermous of Sikeston, Dennis Quertermous of Bertrand, Glenn Quertermous, Charleston Route 3, Lesley Quertermous of Diehlstadt, Kenneth Quertermous of Charleston; four sisters, Lucy Chronister of Poplar Bluff, Ramona Fletcher of Rincon, Ga., Helen Strickland of Senatobia, Miss., Jeanie Williamson of Birmingham, Ala., and seven grandchildren.

Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home after 5:30 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gerald Collier officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
