ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Joe Harris McNeely, 75, of Alpharetta died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born April 28, 1930, in Cape Girardeau, son of Archie and Mildred McNeely. He and Nancy Lewis McNeely were married.

McNeely attended Southeast Missouri State College and lived in St. Louis for a number of years before moving to Dallas, Texas, in 1963. He had moved to Alpharetta in 2002. McNeely was employed by the former Chrysler Boat Co. until it closed in 1980. He was employed by Foley's Dept. Stores until his retirement in 1992. McNeely was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean War. He served as an elder of Northpark Presbyterian Church in Dallas, where he was a member from 1965 to 2002. McNeely was also a member of Alpharetta Presbyterian Church from 2002 until his death.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Marcia Grimsley of Alpharetta; two brothers, Don McNeely of Cape Girardeau, Jerry McNeely of Tarzana, Calif.; a sister, Jane Bruns of Washington, D.C.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son.

A memorial service was held at Northpark Presbyterian Church in Dallas on Nov. 3 following a private interment with the Rev. Dr. John Miller officiating.

A second memorial service will be held at Alpharetta Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. Thursday.
