DEXTER -- Joe Marquis of Dexter, 74, died at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau Friday, May 24, 1996.
He was born Feb. 6, 1922, at Bell City, son of Perry and Ester Cates Marquis.
He marred Lela Duck on Oct. 24, 1953 in Bernie. She survives.
He lived in Stoddard County all of his life and lived in Dexter 42 years. He was a World War II veteran and member of the D.A.V. in Dexter. He was a retired bus driver for the Dexter School District.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Marquis, of Poplar Bluff; 3 stepsons, James Wheatley of Severn, Md.; Paul Wheatley of Memphis, Tenn. and Wlbert Wheatley of Des Peres, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Pat Batten of Dexter and Betty Owens of Bernie; 12 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter, with the Rev. Vyron Young officiating. Burial will be in Sadlers Chapel Cemetery near Dexter.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
