DEXTER, Mo. -- Jo Alyce "Jody" Mason, 89, of Dexter departed this life Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born June 13, 1925, in Luray, Tennessee, daughter of Joseph and Ada Davis Britt. She and C.R. Mason were married July 26, 1946, in Piggott, Arkansas. They had been married 68 years...

DEXTER, Mo. -- Jo Alyce "Jody" Mason, 89, of Dexter departed this life Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born June 13, 1925, in Luray, Tennessee, daughter of Joseph and Ada Davis Britt. She and C.R. Mason were married July 26, 1946, in Piggott, Arkansas. They had been married 68 years.

Jody has been a resident of Dexter the past 29 years. Before returning to Dexter she was a longtime employee of the Memphis City School District. Jody was a member of Dexter First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Her greatest joy in life was to spend time visiting with her extensive network of family and friends. She touched the lives of many, and we are all truly blessed for having her in our lives.

Survivors include her husband, C.R. Mason of Dexter; a son and daughter-in-law, Russell Mason and Robin of Nashville, Tennessee; a sister, Midge Shepard of Jonesboro, Arkansas; a granddaughter, Kris Jeffrey and husband Dave of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two great-grandchildren, Austin Shands and Jamie Jeffrey; a son-in-law, Tom Bailey of Dexter; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Marion Bailey; a brother, Martin Britt; and a sister, Mickey Wentzel.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mike Williams officiating. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
