TAMMS, Ill. -- Joanne M. Adams, 84, of Tamms passed away at 8:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Joanne was born April 7, 1932, in Cairo, Illinois, daughter of the late Albert Lloyd Smithey Sr. and Edna Mae Caudle Smithey.

Joanne was a lifetime member of the Elco Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday-school teacher. She was a bookkeeper and cook for the Egyptian School District for over 40 years. She was an Alexander County 911 board member and an election judge for Alexander County. She enjoyed quilting parties with the ladies from her church. Her passion was her children, gardening and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Kenneth Eugene Adams on Nov. 18, 2002.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rex (Randy) Adams of Tamms and Kim Adams (Jeff Hurt) of Dallas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jane Adams of Villa Ridge, Illinois, and Janice (Mark) Todd of Jackson; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home Tamms and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Cross Road Methodist Church in Ullin, Illinois.

The funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Robbie Grief and Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery in Dongola, Illinois.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to the Baptist Children's Home, 949 County Road 1300, North Carmi, IL 62821 in memory of Joanne Adams.
