CANALOU -- Joann Elizabeth Pierce of Canalou died Saturday, Feb. 1, 1997, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center. She was 62 years old. She was born Feb. 27, 1934, at Checotah, Okla., daughter of Otis and Laura Emberson Marshall. On Sept. 19, 1953, she married Blain Pierce at Canalou, who survives. She was a resident of Canalou most of her life, and attended the Canalou Assembly of God Church...

CANALOU -- Joann Elizabeth Pierce of Canalou died Saturday, Feb. 1, 1997, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center. She was 62 years old.

She was born Feb. 27, 1934, at Checotah, Okla., daughter of Otis and Laura Emberson Marshall. On Sept. 19, 1953, she married Blain Pierce at Canalou, who survives. She was a resident of Canalou most of her life, and attended the Canalou Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include her step-mother, Vivian Fountain Marshall of Idalou, Texas; two sons, Frank Pierce of Lilbourn and Ray Pierce of the home; four daughters, Barbara Spencer of Kewanee, Mo., and Joy Johnson, Kay Drake, and Marsha Merrick, all of Sikeston; five brothers, Ed Marshall of Checotah, Okla., Bill and Lloyd Marshall, both of Idalou, Texas, Paul Marshall of Dallas, Texas, and Raymond Marshall of Ada, Okla.; four sisters, Bertie Stewart of Checotah, Okla., Loretta Dawson of Dennison, Texas, LaVelle Haigood of Lubbock, Texas, and Lynnette Abbott of Idalou, Texas; and 12 grandchildren. One brother preceded her in death.

Friends may call at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held in the Nunnelee Chapel at 2 p.m. Monday, Rev. Mike Cartwright of Canalou Assembly of God Church officiating and Rev. Clifford Rudy of Canalou assisting. Burial will follow at the Matthews Cemetery at Matthews.
