LILBOURN -- J.L. Ergle, 81, of Rockford, Ill., formerly of Lilbourn, died Tuesday, March 21, 1995, at his home.

He was born Aug. 15, 1913, in Double Springs, Ala., son of Arthur and Savannah Horton Ergel. He and Georgia Bell Reese were married Feb. 26, 1946.

Ergle worked many years at Atwood's Mobil Products Co. in Rockford. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Jim, Tommy and Mike Ergle of Rockford, Bill Ergle of Bettendorf, Iowa; six daughters, Betty Utley, Carol Head, Linda Hill, Nellie Bauer and Debbie Forsell of Rockford, Barbara Hill of Davenport, Iowa; four brothers, Ed Ergle of New Madrid, Floyster Ergle of Jonesboro, Ark., James Ergle of Mountain View, Ark., Noah Ergle of Sikeston; six sisters, Gertrude McCoy and Charlotte Tidwell of Matthews, Pauline Metheny of Canalou, Edith Grainger of Sikeston, Ruby Lucers of Ottawa, Kan., Juanita Counts of Matthews; 28 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and two sisters.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston after 5 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Matthews, with the Rev. Cecil Adams officiating. Burial will be in Matthews Cemetery.
