EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral service for J.L. "Buck" Emory of East Prairie was held Saturday at Shelby Funeral Chapel. The Revs. George White and Ted Wimberley officiated, with burial in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
Emory, 91, died Thursday, July 22, 1993, at East Prairie Nursing Center, following a brief illness.
He was born May 18, 1902, near East Prairie, son of Charles Moore and Maggie E. McElmurray Emory. He and Grace Lee Smith were married May 12, 1929, at Charleston. She died March 1, 1992.
Emory was a salesman with Curtis Candy Co., and after retiring was employed by Falkoff's Department Store here. He was a member of First Baptist Church here, and Charleston Masonic Lodge 407 AF&AM.
Survivors include a son, Jack Emory of East Prairie; a brother, Ira C. "Ted" Emory of Poplar Bluff; three sisters, Amy Knupp, Margaret Schneider and Oma King, all of East Prairie; three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
