James E. Cox Sr., 61, of Sikeston died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.

He was born Feb. 22, 1942, at Sikeston, son of J.F. and Alberta Masters Cox Jr. He and Martha Lou Boyer were married Dec. 1, 1962, at Sikeston.

Cox was a part owner and operator of Home Oil Company and a U.S. Army Reservist. He was a 42-year member of the Sikeston Jaycees, served as Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Chairman in 1967 and was recognized with many honors in the organization. Cox was also a member of the Henry Meldrum American Legion Post 114 and a founding member of the Bootheel Bass Busters Club and the River Bend Hunting Club. Cox served for many years as membership director for the Swampeast Missouri Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, James E. Cox, Jr.; a daughter, Kathy Kelley; two brothers, J.F. Cox III and Albert Cox; and seven grandchildren, all of Sikeston.

He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Nunnelee Chapel, with the Rev. William Koch officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
