CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Jessie Mary Johnson, 76, of Charleston died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo.
She was born July 4, 1924, in Brownsville, Tenn., daughter of Lafayette and Mosie Lee Erving of Detroit, Mich.
Johnson lived in Missouri since 1955. She was a member of Grand Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church, its Prayer Warriors, and sang with the Singing Johnson Family.
Survivors include three sons, Sam Claybourn of Memphis, Tenn., Tommy Johnson Jr. of Charleston, Reo Johnson of Sikeston; eight daughters, Roberta and Sammy Claybourn of Mississippi, Ruthie Craig, Doris Wheeler, Lynda Warford and Sarah Carter, all of Charleston, Alice Jenkins of Cape Girardeau, Vereline Johnson of Topeka, Kan.; a sister, Thereasa Garrett of Detroit; 21 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Sparks Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Friday.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Opportunity Church of God in Christ, with Furman Fordham II officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
